G.711 is a popular speech codec.

At its heart, G.711 is the most naive implementation of a narrowband speech codec, with no compression to the raw data.

G.711 has a sampling frequency of 8 kHz and requires 64 kbit/s bitrate to operate.

G.711 is one of the mandatory to implement codecs in WebRTC, serving as simple means for interoperability of voice.
